Cantina di Venosa was founded in 1957 and today has 400 grower members with 800 ha of vineyard. It is the largest producer of Aglianico wines in the Vulture area of Basilicata - here vines grow on the volcanic soils from the local Mount Vulture. The Aglianico grape is believed to have been introduced to the region by the Greeks in the 6th or 7th century BC!

Aglianico del Vulture Terre di Orazio wine is a really classic, mature, southern Italian red which is remarkably accessible for the notoriously tannic Aglianico grape. Terre di Orazio means ‘Land of Horace’ - the famous Latin poet was born here in Venosa. A warm and richly-flavoured oak-aged Aglianico. With aromas of violet and cassis, the generous palate is packed full of red and black berry fruits, with spice and well-integrated oak giving structure and length. At its best with pasta dishes, red meats and mature cheeses.

Awards and Reveiws: Aglianico del Vulture Terre di Orazio 2018: ” …mixes spicy red berries with clove and candied orange to create a seductive bouquet. Its silky textures are lifted by brisk acids, as tart cherry and blueberry skins saturate the palate. Fine-grained tannins linger, framing the experience nicely, as the Terre di Orazio tapers off to notes of blackberry and sage. Very nice. 91pts“. Eric Guido, Vinous (July 2021)
