Paşaeli is a family owned estate that was founded by Seyit Karagözoğlu in 2000 who believes strongly in the potential of indigenous varieties of Turkey. The wines are all made from fruit coming from single vineyards. Paşaeli wines emphasize fruit intensity, and balance. Lush and enticing upon release, they will age well for a number of years and will continue to develop complexity with cellaring.
Karasakiz is native to Kaz Daglari and translates curiously as “black chewing gum”. The grapes come from a single vineyard of clay-loam soil planted at an altitude of 550 metres. Wild yeast fermentation, then aged for six months in French and American oak barrels (not new) prior to a minimum of 6 months in bottle before release.
Very ripe dried blackcurrant flavours with tight acidity that helps balance the hint of raisin on the mid-palate. A salty finish but spiced with with pepper, clove, and vanilla. A warm finish accompanied by rounded tannins, a hint of black cherry brandy which lengthens the palate.
