Founded in 1811, this is the oldest sparkling-wine house in Saumur and one of the biggest of the Loire negociants. Technological advances in winemaking are at the heart of the business; Ackerman remains strongly committed to sustainability and ecological issues and in recent years has pushed ahead with low-intervention wine production including organic viticulture and wines with no added sulphites.
Saumur Brut 'L'Esprit Nature' Méthode Traditionnelle Sans Soufre wine is a French option for those who like Prosecco. This Loire sparkler is made without added sulphites. A pretty nose - classic Chenin with honey, lanolin and stewed apple. Bright acidity is underpinned with a good depth of flavour. Fresh, crisp and pure on the finish with hints of green apple. Try with many types of fish - grilled shrimp or octopus, sushi, pan fried scallop or lemon sole. Also works with lemon-based desserts - a fine lemon tart, zesty mousse or a pear sorbet.
