Brothers Christian and Andrea Tombacco are the third generation to produce wine in the Veneto, their farm having been founded by their grandfather Batista in 1899. Their vineyards are farmed organically and to explain the name of their winery ‘47 Anno Domini’ they sit on the Via Augustus, a Roman route connecting Venice to the plains beyond the Brenner pass, which was completed under the rule of Emperor Claudius Augustus in 47AD. These are wines made in a traditional fashion, including the tappo spago cork closure, a symbol of their desire to move forward while never forgetting their heritage.
High quality fruit is sourced from the provinces of Treviso, Padua, Belluno, Venice, and Vicenza in the Veneto region, and the provinces of Gorizia, Pordenone, Trieste, and Udine within the Friuli Venezia Giulia region. The organic grapes are hand-harvested and manually sorted in the winery. The grapes are then pressed and transferred into a pressurised vat in which primary fermentation takes place. Fermentation is then followed by a number of rackings for clarication. The sugar needed for the secondary fermentation is then added to this base wine, where secondary fermentation then occurs. to produce this 'Spumante' style. This wine is only aged in stainless steel to maintain purity of fruit.
47 AD Prosecco DOC Spumante Biologio is a classic Prosecco Spumante with a very appealing fruit forward nose and harmonious mouth feel. The palate bursts with vibrant apples and pears combined with a delicate floral character. The perfect aperitif.
