Adelina Grenache. This wine shows lifted aromatic Grenache fruit on the nose and palate, with a subtle influence of integrated oak and a long fruit driven finish.
Adelina is a small winery and vineyard nestled in the Spring Farm Valley between the Aberfeldy and Wendouree vineyards, approximately 4km south/south east of the township of Clare. The small vineyard has an elevation of approximately 450 metres above sea level, originally established circa 1910 yields mainly Shiraz, Grenache, and Cabernet Sauvignon, however there are also small plantings of Pinot Noir and Pedro Ximenes. The Gardner family have owned the Spring Farm Estate (the site of both the Adelina winery and vineyards) since 1986. Winemakers Col McBryde and Jennie Gardner (the team from Some Young Punks) hold Ph.D’s in oenology and see Adelina as a very different beast. The Adelina winemaking philosophy is simple: make wines which exhibit a sense of place, the definition of site, climate, and season, whilst utilising minimalist approaches.
The fruit is grown in Adelina's Springfarm Estate vineyard in the Clare Valley. The vines are over 65 years old and the clones are thought to be from original Valley stock. The soil type is grey sandy loam over sandstone. Fruit was destemmed and crushed, fermented by indigenous yeast (total time on skins 14 days, including pre and post fermentation maceration). Drained and pressed to oak for malolactic fermentation and maturation.
A superb match for lamb chops, meaty fish steaks or rich and savoury stews.
