Spioenkop '1900' Chenin Blanc, Western Cape is the 'entry' Chenin from these current darling of the press... find out why. Amongst South Africa’s most inventive, contemporary producers, Spioenkop makes wines unique to Elgin let alone the country. ‘1900’ Chenin Blanc quite rightly deserves the press plaudits it’s receiving that’s defining the possibilities of this challenging valley. A colour of pure beaten gold, yet immediately tight and youthful on the nose, with notes of freshly toasted brioche and lime marmalade. On the palate the prominent preserved citrus notes abound, it’s a huge Chenin but really high key, always structured, always refreshing and mind blowing. Pairs well with a variety of different dishes, but excellent with oysters, game fish. Also nice with Duck à l’Orange and asparagus dishes.
