This is the 2007 edition of the popular Benromach Peat Smoke, which this time was peated to 62PPM, just a touch lower than the previous year's offering of 67PPM. It was matured from 2006 to 2015 in first fill bourbon barrels and bottled at 46% ABV. Light gold in colour, the nose is sweet and fruity, with a wave of subtle camp-fire smoke. Crisp green apples, white pepper, sweet malt, honey and cigar ash. The smoke is actually surprisingly subdued for the high ppm. The mouthfeel is very pleasant, light and creamy. It's in the taste though where much more smoke is found, but still not overpowering. Fresh, sweet malt, and subtle vegetal peat dominate with some stone fruit and pepper. The smoke is sweet and fresh which makes it very enjoyable and well balanced. On the finish Benromach Peat Smoke Single Malt Whisky is long and quite complex. Initially fruity and sweet, it then drys as the smoke comes back to the fore. Then it fades slowly with exquisite malty biscuits laced with wood smoke.
