Every BLANKbottle tells a story and the one behind this wine from the mercurial wine-master extraordinaire, Pieter H Walser is a belter. Pieter got into making wine because he fell in love with a red blended wine called Tassenberg. Back in "the day" this was a great wine but as tastes changed, and the boarders opened in South Africa, all the great grapes that used to go into Tassenberg were used to make specific varitals and only low quality grapes made it into Tass. By this point Peiter was already making wine and when he struck out on his own, he decided to chase that elusive taste he remembered from Tassenberg. He discovered it was Cinsault. So what did he do? Went out to find the best Cinsault grapes he could from Breedekloof (“not a hip and happening area”, says Pieter), employed 40 people to hand select only the best grape bunches from across the vineyard, and then kept 10 on to sort through these bunches to only select the best grapes. Then he set about making one of the most fantastic wines we've ever found. "My Koffer" (shouldn't there be a "W" in there?) is loaded with spiced currants, liquorice sticks, rasberry coulis and wild strawberries. There's more structure and personality to this than many Cinsaults on the market and we love it for it. The finish is bursting with cinnmanon dusted hedgerow fruits. For Pieter he describes the taste as a "suitcase full of memories that reminds me of my 3 year old daughter". For us, this wine is just A.M.A.Zing.
