The Bodega Garzon Tannat was a wine that took us quite by surprise and but for our curiosity we'd never had tried it! We found it languishing at the end of an importers wine list and asked if they had any we could try as we hadn't had anything from Uruguay before. Thankfully they rushed over a bottle and after the first glass we were hooked. It's easy to see why this wine is winning so many awards in the States, yet it's virtually unheard of over here. Tannat is the signature Uruguayan varietal that has found its ideal soil in Garzón where The Bodega Garzon Tannat is produced. This wine has intense red and black fruit with a delightful, lingering aftertaste. Fresh and soft, this wine is ready to drink now. This elegant and powerful wine greets you with beautiful aromas of raspberry and red cherry, followed by delicious flavours of black plum, rhubarb and tobacco mixed with dark chocolate and white pepper. That delightful finish we mentioned is a brilliant balance of silky tannins and supple fruit. This is a brilliant wine to pair with roast meats like beef and maybe even lamb, but it also stands up brilliantly to big strong hard blue cheeses. We had our bottle with an indulgent amount of blue stilton, cheese biscuits and a rather lovely apple and plum chutney and it was heaven!
