The Languedoc is often thought of as French’s engine room, it is after all the largest wine region in the world just behind Castilla La-Mancha. But if Languedoc is the engine room, Prieuré is a Rolls Royce. It has quite a pedigree. We’re down in the rolling hills near Pezenas here, in vineyards first planted by Cistercian monks who also built the Priory church of Saint Jean in 1152. Just over 30 hectares is broken into 45 different blocks and 3 different major soil types, galets, basalt and limestone … Burgundy eat your heart out!

Chapelle de Bébian Blanc Coteaux de Languedoc is hand harvested, the Grenache is fermneted in stainless steel whilst the Roussanne and Clairette are fermented and aged in neutral oak. Our allocation this year is just 90 bottles.

Less over the top than its big brother, the much more extravagant Priure St Jean de Bebian. This is delicately floral on the nose with notes of honeysuckle. The palate has a fantastic mineral streak with just the right amount of plumpness on the finish.

Perfect with seafood or shellfish.
