Cantina di Venosa was founded in 1957 and today has 400 grower members with 800 ha of vineyard. It is the largest producer of Aglianico wines in the Vulture area of Basilicata. The Aglianico grape is believed to have been introduced to the region by the Greeks in the 6th or 7th century BC.

Aglianico del Vulture Gesualdo is one of Cantina di Venosa's top tier wines which really does earn Aglianico the title 'Barolo of the south'. A well-structured and mature wine with warm, inviting aromas of dark black fruits, spice, liquorice and smoky notes with a hint of molasses. The palate is rich and powerful with firm, chewy tannins rounded by ripe damson and plum fruit, with a touch of black cherry and brown spice. It combines rich chunky fruit with a purity and finesse on the finish which reveals surprisingly delicate, lightly floral characters. Ideal to partner rich meat dishes - casseroles and roasts.
