Kinsale Mead Co. Wild Red Mead
This product is currently sold out.
This lovely Irish mead is handcrafted in West Cork; it is a refreshing melomel style mead made from Spanish forest honey, Wexford blackcurrants and sweet dark cherries. Each batch is carefully mixed, fermented and matured with care and passion and attention to quality.
Kinsale and Spain have close maritime links dating back several centuries and the honey used comes from Spain along those same trade routes to Kinsale. For this particular mead Spanish forest honey is used to complement the fruit flavours.
The water used comes from Innishannon (Inis Eonáin) upriver from Kinsale along the beautiful meandering river Bandon which rises in the Shehy Mountains.
Kinsale Wild Red Mead was inspired by Kinsale’s famous red-headed pirate Anne Bonny who was born close to the high cliffs by the Old Head of Kinsale. Packed full of flavour, it balances the tartness of Wexford blackcurrants with sweetness from dark cherries with a hint of honey and a smooth finish. Enjoy on its own at room temperature or over ice with a thin slice of orange. This mead is also fabulous when mulled with spices for a warming, winter drink. Great paired with duck and Cumberland sauce, wonderful with sticky barbecue ribs, strong cheese or rich, dark chocolate.
