New Zealand isn't generally known for it's Syrah or Shiraz, but if Craggy Range is anything to go by. It certainly should be. This is a wine made from clones of syrah vines brought to New Zealand over 150 years ago! A wine of tremendous quality and provenance, Craggy Range Syrah from Gimblett Gravels Vineyard is a full, black-hued, purple-ruby colour, youthful in appearance. A lifted aroma of black berry fruits harmoniously entwined with liquorice, Asian spices, black pepper and violet florals welcome you as you swirl the wine in your glass. The palate is rich with sweet dark fruits framed by lovely balanced acidity and fine grainy tannins. The finish is very long and sustained. Elegant, refined, harmonious Syrah that delivers an intense bouquet and rich flavours of black fruits, spices and florals which is why it is the perfect match for barbequed lamb.
