Subtly oaked Chardonnay with citrus fruit and a mineral core.
The Chardonnay vines for this Mâcon-Verzé Blanc were planted between 1993 and 2014, in clay-limestone soils with some marl. The domaine is in conversion to organic farming and also uses some biodynamic practices. Grapes were hand harvested, pressed, and the wine was then fermented with natural yeasts before being left on its lees in a combination of vats and old oak casks for 8-12 months.
Tasting notes
A classic white from Southern Burgundy - fine buttery and floral notes on the nose with substance and finesse on the palate. Some creamy textural notes up front reveal the discrete presence of oak, whilst on the finish there is some underlying minerality and a hint of citrus zestiness that provides long lasting flavours.
Food match
A jambon beurre or a croque monsieur.
