'La Rencontre' translates from French as 'a meeting of people'. Meeting people in our business is important - the meeting of winemakers and growers becomes a melting pot of information and ideas. After a fortuitous meeting with a grower where the wines were simply fantastic - the alchemy and fun began, in glorious Saint Véran.
St Véran is an appellation that shares many similarities with it’s ‘big brother’ Pouilly Fuissé and some of the best sites are situated on the foothills of two ‘rochers’ that are dominant features of the southern Mâconnais country side - La Roche de Solutré and La Roche de Vergisson. Here the granitic sub soil has its word to say and lends an elegant flinty edge to some quite tender Chardonnay. The wine has undergone partial malolcatic fermentation, which gives the wine a subtle creamy texture, weight and presence.
Classic chardonnay from the area offering some lovely fresh citrus notes of lemon peel, floral notes with interesting exotic undertones.
Will be a perfect accompaniment to pan seared scallops, crab, vichyssoise (a leek and potato based soup), and dishes with a cream and lemon based sauce.
