What is Mead? Mead is an alcoholic drink of fermented honey and water! However, not all meads are created in the same manner. Known as the drink of the Gods and in modern memory, associated with the Vikings, mead is now also produced using base alcohol, white wine or sugar syrup, with honey added at a later stage.

In Norse mythology, Sleipnir (pronounced Sleep-Near) is Odin’s Steed. He is the child of Loki and is described as the best of all horses.

The original recipe builds on the idea of the Loki recipe by using honey and treacle, instead of 100% honey.

This gives it a unique smoky/sweet flavour – think boozy treacle toffee in a glass and you won’t be far wrong!

This mead does not like to be served cold, it much prefers to be enjoyed at room temperature or warmed. It makes an excellent cooking companion and goes great with meats or in gravy.
