Towering high above California’s Alexander Valley stands the Mayacamas Mountains, the rugged home to Alexander Mountain Estate and the wines of Stonestreet. It’s one of the most extensive mountain estates in the world where blocks of single vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon, Chardonnay and Sauvignon Blanc grow on volcanic soils.
Legacy, Sonoma is led by Cabernet Sauvignon which makes up 84% of the blend and is from both hillside and mountain vineyards in the Alexander Valley. The mountain vineyards reach up to 2,400 feet in elevation and are planted on the Alexander Mountain Estate. Higher altitude creates its own climate which is different from the vineyards planted on the valley floor. Even on the warmest summer days, the cooling influence of the Pacific Ocean twenty miles away can be felt. Soils, too, are significantly different. On the mountain, the soil is thin, rocky and gravelly. This helps produce fruit that is complex, rich and concentrated.
Layers of fruit, vanilla and spice, with luscious textures. A big, bold and magnificent wine. Aromas of blackcurrant, rich ripe blackberries, with layers of decadent vanilla. The palate is silky with rich, sweet black fruits, countered with hints of black olive, Christmas cake and chocolate. Some more dusty notes and freshly cut young wood, together with grippy tannins help to add complexity and balance to this succulent wine. Pair this fantastic wine with dark meats in rich reduced sauces, such as beef bourguignon, lovingly prepared steak and kidney pie, roast prime rib of beef or lamb shank.
