The grapes for this port are grown on vines that are 'A' classified, the best in the Douro Valley. They are planted on the terraces in the Vale de Mendiz at Pinhao River Valley. The soil is acidic and schistic with some stones at an altitude of 250-350 metres. The average age of the vines is over 30 years old.
The grapes are carefully selected and vinified at controlled temperature before being fortified with local brandy. The port is then aged in stainless steel vats to soften whilst retaining its fruit character and deep ruby colour.
It has an elegant nose full of ripe red fruit aromas.
This would be perfect with ripe, hard cheeses or with chocolate desserts.
