Bodegas Navajas is a family winery situated in the village of Navarette which is at the heart of DOC Rioja. The Bodega is run by Antonio Navajas, with his wife Rosa. Their son Roberto is responsible for production and quality control while their daughter Mercedes is in charge of exports. They have a state-of-the-art winery allowing them to use the most modern technology in making their wines. When this is combined with their knowledge and use of traditional methods, the wines speak for themselves.

The grapes for this wine are hand-picked from the oldest vines in the first fortnight of October.  Fermentation takes place naturally at controlled temperatures to ensure the best extraction from the grapes.  The wine undergoes malolactic fermentation, it is then filtered and moved to French and American oak barrels to rest for a minimum of 20 months.  Once bottled the wine is kept in the winery cellar until it reaches the optimum maturity.

Ruby red with medium depth, on the nose this wine has aromas of ripe fruit and notes of spice and herbs from its time in oak.  It is very expressive on the palate with an elegant, long finish.

This will be particularly good when paired with charcuterie, cheeses, red meat and game dishes.
