Onannon Pinot Noir, Mornington Peninsula (6 Bottle Case)
This product is currently sold out.
Robust yet refined, a single vineyard Pinot with a real sense of place.
The grapes are sourced from Red Hill on a site overlooking Port Philip Bay. The vines are 19 years old, planted predominately to MV6, with a small new planting of 777 clone (10 years old). The vineyard’s rich terra rossa soils are on a steep north-facing slope at 120 meters above sea level. All the grapes were hand harvested. A week post ferment maceration (15 days in total in fermenter). 15% whole bunch, minimal plunging, pressed to tank, then racked to barrel. 20% new French oak. Natural MLF. Racked twice in its 10 month barrel life before bottling. No fining or filtration. 10 months in barrel.
Gutsy, meaty Pinot Noir showing tremendous cherry and plum fruit and deeply herbal savoury notes. In spite of this the wine remains delicate and poised, with a great supporting cast of tannin and acidity. A wine with a real sense of place.
Ideal with roasted or grilled poultry or game, roasted fish wrapped in pancetta & sage, or a medium rare rack of lamb.
