‘The Advocate’ Albariño (6 Bottle Case)
Sileni Estates was born from a long-standing interest in wine by Graeme Avery. In late 1997, along with financial director Chris Cowper and winemaker Grant Edmonds, he established Sileni as an export-oriented producer, committed to crafting world-class fine wines. The winery is named after the Sileni who featured in Roman mythology alongside Bacchus, the God of Wine. They celebrated good wine, good food and good company; to us here at Kwoff, the holy trinity. The vineyards and winery are based near Hastings, Hawke’s Bay - the oldest wine region in New Zealand - on the east coast of the North Island of New Zealand.
Named in recognition of the late Garry Glazebrook, a prominent figure in the Hawke’s Bay winemaking and viticulture industry for more than 30 years. Garry enjoyed visiting Sileni Estates regularly when it opened in the late 1990’s and often included advice to Chief Winemaker, Grant Edmonds, to consider planting the Spanish grape variety Albarino (due to the similar climate, disease pressures and the research he had conducted, he was adamant it would do well). For many years the recommendations were left on the back burner, however eventually Garry’s advice won out so when it came to naming the first vintage, he immediately came to mind as the ‘Advocate’ for Albarino!
‘The Advocate’ Albariño wine has intense aromatics with layers of peach, nectarine and citrus fruit, combined with a hint of spice. Elegantly structured, with a finely balanced acidity leading to a long finish. Enjoy with Mediterranean style salads, seafood, or pair with semi-soft creamy cheese.
