Trizanne Signature Wines, Syrah, Swartland

We have always enjoyed working with winemakers who are prepared to push the boundaries. Trizanne Barnard is definitely one of these. Deciding to focus on Elim to produce her white wines, she went as far south as it is possible to go.
Elim is an ancient land, at the confluence of the Indian and Atlantic oceans, and at the mercy of the prevailing south easterly wind. It is in this, the coolest of cool South African climates that Trizanne has realised her ambition to make aromatic, textured, elegant white wines. Latterly she has also developed a wonderful Syrah in this wind ravaged land too. To balance these challenges she also works in Swartland, the home of the recent South African winemaking renaissance, making reds that are light of touch, vibrant and full of life.
18 year old Vineyards in the Swartland, farmed dry-land. 4 wire extended Perold trellis system. Predominantly, the soil-type found in the vineyards has sandy-loam topsoil with well-structured subsoil, on weathered rock. This soil has good water holding capacity, providing much needed water during hot summers in this dry-land vineyard.
Hand picked grapes, whole berries naturally fermented in open fermenters. Punch downs are carried out 3 times a day, and fermentation is at 26 degrees Celcius, the primary fermentation 2 weeks with extended maceration of a further 2 weeks.
A youthful punch of red and black fruits on the nose with a delightfully savoury touch of black olive. That continues on the harmonious and well-weighted palate. A youthful, solid and (most importantly) delicious wine.
