The lesser-known Susumaniello grape is native to the Brindisi area, and possibly related to Sangiovese. It had almost disappeared, but Vallone were one of the pioneers of its rediscovery, planting 10 hectares of bush vines on their Castelserranova estate, up the coast from Brindisi. 'Susumaniello' means ‘little donkey’ in local dialect, which may refer to its ability to carry heavy loads.

Vallone Susumaniello wine has intense black fruit aromas that lead to a ripe, spicy palate with hints of dark chocolate - all balanced by fresh acidity and lightly floral notes. Drink with pork or roasted vegetable dishes. This could make an interesting alternative to good, high altitude Malbec!

Please note: All case wines can take between 7-10 days for delivery.
