The Castell del Remei 1780 is one of those wines that just gets amazing reviews everywhere on-line. Being fans of Spanish wine we deliberately sought this one out for the shop and boy oh boy are we ever glad we did. The 1780 is quite simply gorgeous. It delivers a rich blend of Cabernet, Tempranillo and Garnacha that combine to deliver a fruity but nutty wine that is perfectly poised to take the 15 months of oak barrel ageing that seems to perfectly complement an expertly crafted vino! The 1780 is a deep and intense wine with expressive aromas of cassis, mulberry and balsamic notes. For us, this is a voluptuous wine with ripe and integrated fine tannins, bright acidity and a powerful black fruit and mocha finish. It may be priced in the over £25 bracket, but we've had wines twice that price that haven't been half as good as the Castell del Remei 1780. Don't lie this one down for years, it's ready now and when you do drink it try it with duck with cherry or prunes. They are a match made in heaven!
