The Bertin family have produced wine in Bordeaux since 1742, with estates in three appellations - Château Cardinal (Montagne Saint-Émilion), Le Clos de L'Hermitage (Lalande de Pomerol) and Château Dallau (Bordeaux Supérieur) - mainly planted with Merlot, together with Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc. Under Mme Yvette Bertin who works with her grand-daughter Sarah Boireau, the aim is to produce full bodied, mellow and balanced wines by bringing fresh expertise to ancient traditions.
Château Dallau, Bordeaux Supérieur wine is an appreciable step up in quality from AOP Bordeaux. The predominance of Merlot shows here with ripe plum and red cherry aromas with a touch of 'sous-bois'. The palate is generous; there's some richness lent by oak, finishing with warm spice and gentle tannins. Enjoy with braised beef or venison, roast chicken, ham or charcuterie.
