Madai is the creation of the Amigo brothers, who returned to their native Bierzo to rejuvenate their grandparents' vineyards planted with old vine Mencia grapes (over 80 years of age). The Mencia grapes are taken to the cellar after harvesting where, following fermentation, they spend 14 months in 500 litre French oak barrels.
Madai Atlantic Mencía has blueberry and blackberry aromas with floral, violet notes. The palate is complex with layers of berry and bramble fruit and herbal characters supported by silky, elegant tannins. Minerality and fresh acidity follow through to the long and lightly saline finish.
This red will pair with rich, roasted meat and game - and also oily fish dishes.
