The illustrious Montresor family moved from France to Italy at the start of the 19th Century and settled in the Veneto region near Lake Garda. In 1892 Cantina Giacomo Montresor was established in Verona and remains family-owned to this day. Giorgio Montresor produces a portfolio of wines which increasingly rival the offerings of the region's more fashionable names - harnessing modern technology to craft the best wines from each site, across their 100ha of vineyard, in Valpolicella and Garda. This overlooked region produces bright, vibrantly fruity reds - similar in style to Valpolicella.
Montresor Amarone della Valpolicella del Fondatore wine is an authentic and opulent Amarone with depth and complexity. The family regard the wine so highly they named it after the founder - Giacomo Montresor! This wine has complex nose showing notes of black cherry, plum, violets, coffee and raisins. The palate is smooth and rounded, with a richly-textured mid-palate and a medley of spice, dried fruit characters and supple tannins. The wine remains elegant, being well-integrated and rich, but with delicate floral notes and a long and complex, dry finish. A beautiful drop to pair with red meats, game and hard cheeses, especially Parmesan and blue cheese.
