When you hear about the production then you start to realise why it's such a great wine. Contessa hand selected grapes from the best plots of Montepulciano grown on their estate in Collecorvino so only the best went into the bottle. They then took ridiculous amounts of care in the production such as temperature control during extended maceration and finally they lovingly fermented it for 12 months in oak before giving it a further 4 months of ageing in the bottle.
The result? Well open the bottle, pour a glass and one sniff and you can immediately get an impression of the quality of this wine. Contesa Montepulciano d’Abruzzo has vibrant aromas of ripe black fruit, with hints of dark chocolate and spicy oak greet you. The palate is rich and generous with abundant bramble and black cherry fruit, and the amazingly structured tannins are balanced by fresh acidity to give an elegant finish. It's just a total delight from the first glass to the last.
If you are looking to pair this wine, braised beef is a perfect choice. The structured tannins will beautifully complement the beef, but the fresh acidity is going to cut though any remanence of sauce.
We should also let you know this wine made in into Wine Enthusiast's top 100 for 2019 and scored an incredible 91 points which is pretty much unheard of for a wine at this price point.
