Madai is the creation of the Amigo brothers, who returned to their native Bierzo to rejuvenate their grandparents' vineyards planted with old vine Mencia (over 80 years of age). The Mencia grapes are fermented and then matured in French oak, on lees, for 12 months before bottling.
Madai Sobre Lias Mencía has violet and red berry aromas with hints of cocoa and brown spices. Gentle but firm tannins and lightly toasty, spicy notes from time spent in oak are balanced by the dark cherry and bramble fruit, vibrant acidity and pleasing minerality.
Pasta dishes with a meat ragù, or rich bean stews with pork or chorizo.
