Bodegas Ontañón is a 5th generation family-owned and run winery in Rioja Baja. Here Raquel, Rubén and Maria Pérez Cuevas continue their father Gabriel's work to develop Bodegas Ontañón into one of the most highly-regarded wineries in Rioja.
Ontañón's red wine portfolio is based around the Tempranillo grape however the Reserva and Gran Reserva wines are 95% Tempranillo blended with 5% Graciano. Graciano, native to the Rioja region, is high in acidity, colour and tannin - beneficial for those wines which are destined for a more prolonged maturation.
Ontañón Rioja Gran Reserva is a top-class Rioja from one of the best recent vintages. Beautifully developed Rioja with aromas of dark fruit, red cherry, spice, tobacco and mocha. The palate shows complexity and structure with layers of black fruit, spice and toasty oak to give a long and elegant finish. Truly superb, not to forget award-winning wine to serve with roast meat dishes, or simply with fine ham and cheeses.
