Producer Profile

When Ana and Iván got together for a party with some oenologist friends in 2007, they decided to make some wine and put it in a barrel. The results of this first vintage were astonishing and so Bodegas Gratias was born.

After the success of the first vintage, they realised they had a chance to make a difference. In a region with a declining wine industry, Ana and Iván are on a mission to protect old vineyards of Bobal and other local varieties, championing the vinous heritage of the area. Hopefully not quixotically, they are keen to show that great wine can still be made here and that the region's traditions can survive and flourish into the future. These wines are artisinal and as natural as they come, being organically grown, fermented with natural occurring yeasts and minute sulphur additions, if any.

Viticulture

Sustainable agriculture based on respect and common sense. The typical soils of the area are red due to its high ferrous content, they are deep and mostly clay- calcereus typical of Manchela and the vines here are more than 80 years old.

Winemaking

Artisanal and respectful winemaking with as little done to the wine to make the best wine possible. The grapes for this wine are fermented only in small tinajas as whole bunches with manual pissage. After a gentle pressing, the wine is then aged in tinaja for 4 months.

Oak Treatment

No oak treatment

Tasting Note

Garnet red with purple hues. Salty, mineral and black fruits on the nose. The mouthfeel profile reflects the nose, with plenty of black fruit and earthy notes.

Food Matching

Hearty stews, roasted meats and aged cheese.
