A stunning first vintage from Domaine Berthelemot's new vineyard acqusitions.
Hand harvested Chardonnay from vines planted in 1990. The parcel is just over a third of a hectare with limestone soil and marl peppered with sharp stones, the 'dents de chien'. Fermented in oak barrels, 25% new, the malo follows naturally in the spring and the wine stays on its lees until bottling in June. The 2018 vintage gave ideal growing conditions, with a cold winter followed by warm spring with just enough rain, leading into a hot and dry summer.
Reflecting the warmth of the 2018 vintage, this is already approachable and complete with forward ripe fruit and a complex, full palate balanced with some saline freshness on the finish.
Great with roast chicken, turbot in a cream sauce.
