The 350ha Monte Schiavo estate in Marche is a testament to the Pieralisi family whose background was in olive oil manufacturing equipment, but 20 years ago began to invest in agriculture, also purchasing vineyards from the co-operative within Maiolati Spontini. They own a portfolio of prime vineyard within the Castelli di Jesi zone, and the Monte Schiavo winery is situated amongst some of their most prized plots, notably the Colle del Sole vineyard. The appointment of talented young winemaker Simone Schiaffino, and collaboration with renowned Italian winemaking consultant Carlo Ferrini since the 2015 vintage, has added a new depth and complexity to their portfolio. Monte Schiavo are in the process of converting to organic production.
Monte Schiavo Coste del Molino Verdicchio Classico wine is a concentrated, full-flavoured style of Verdicchio with ripe peachy fruit from Monte Schiavo's 'Coste del Molino' vineyard. Stylish and concentrated with fresh intense aromas of grapefruit and lime, as well as honeyed stone fruit. The palate is fresh and fruity; very approachable, with apple, pear and ripe stone fruit. A mouth-filling minerality adds to the complexity and palate weight. Great with seafood risotto, but enough palate weight to be refreshing with grilled sardines and a green leaf salad.
