El Porvenir – “the future” has been the name of this estate since it was founded in 1890. This small, family-owned winery in Cafayate, specialises in Torrontes, Malbec, Tannat and red blends from 45-50 year old vineyards which are amongst the highest in the world at 1900m above sea level and surrounded by 20ft, 200+ year old monster cacti.
Colour in the reds here is profound due to the exposure to prolonged mountain sunlight, with soft tannins thanks in part to the extreme diurnal temperature differences... some mornings the cacti are thick with frost but within a few hours temperatures soar to the mid/high 20s!
El Porvenir's march into the future continues with the Pequenas Fermentaciones range of small, experimental wines. This is a vibrant unoaked Garnacha from Cafayate.
This wine is made from 100% Garnacha grapes from new vineyards planted in colluvial soil at the foot of the mountain at Finca Piedramonte. Fermented with native yeasts with 25% whole cluster to enhance freshness and through carbonic maceration. It finished fermentation without skins to preserve its fruity expression and freshness.
Pequenas Fermentaciones Garnacha wine is a wonderful red cherry colour with notes of cherry, red apple, fresh plum and thyme. The palate is is fresh and fruity with vibrant flavours of plum and strawberry candy. Light in structure with great acidity and a refreshing finish. Enjoy with grilled or smoked salmon dishes, venison or a spicy curry,
