The No Rules Wines portfolio is the work of up-and-coming Portuguese winemaker Tiago Macena. He sources from the best parcels of local varieties to express the characteristics of the Serra da Estrela sub-region, which has the highest mountain ranges in Portugal. He harnesses freshness and fruit character to make wines that really overdeliver.
Local varieties Jaen, Alfrocheiro, Touriga Nacional, and Tinta Roriz are sourced from the Dão region. After harvesting each grape variety is vinified separately, with gentle extraction, and aged in cement tanks. In the spring following the harvest they are blended together, and the wine remains in cement before bottling.
Portal da Estrela Tinto DOC Dao wine has appealing and lifted red fruit aromas with a gently herbal note. Crunchy strawberry and raspberry fruit on the palate, which is fresh and elegant with smooth tannins and bright acidity. A modern style Dão red, medium-bodied, elegant and full of fruit. Pair with lamb chops or a rich beef stew.
