Quinta da Boa Esperança can be found in the village of Zibreira in Torres Vedras, in the Lisboa district of Western Portugal - the country's most extensive wine-growing area. Here, between the Atlantic Ocean and the Serra de Montejunto, the Mediterranean climate of mild winters and hot, dry summers is significantly tempered by the proximity of the Atlantic - which provides cool breezes during the hotter summer months. The winery has been in production for over 100 years and the estate's vineyards range from 90-150 metres altitude. Soils are predominantly clay-limestone and rich in nutrients and the grapes are hand harvested.
Local varieties Castelão and Fernão Pires are harvested and destemmed before fermentation begins in the wine press and following pressing ends in stainless steel tanks at a controlled temperature.
Quinta da Boa Esperança Palhete NV wine has floral and cherry aromas, with berry and sour cherry notes continuing onto the palate. This is balanced with savoury aromas of rosemary and aniseed. Gentle tannins and fresh acidity on the juicy, supple finish. The juicy style matches hearty sausages, grilled meats and full-flavoured fish dishes. Best served chilled but not cold.
