Fantastic single-vineyard Chianti Classico now elevated to Gran Selezione.
Since moving to Gran Selezione status with the 2011 vintage this wine is now produced from 100% Sangiovese grapes - cultivated in the single, 30 year old Poggio Rosso vineyard, situated on the Agricola San Felice estate in Castelnuovo Berardenga, Siena.
San Felice Poggio Rosso Gran Selezione Chianti Classico has a deeply coloured, dense, meaty nose with ripe plum and bramble fruit. Rich, lush and concentrated with layers of spice, bitter chocolate and coffee under opulent wild plum and cherry fruit. Very fine, integrated tannins. Drink now to 2020 and beyond. Excellent with roast meats, casseroles, pasta with a rich sauce, and mature or hard cheese.

San Felice Poggio Rosso Gran Selezione Chianti Classico 2016: “From a parcel originally planted in the 1970s with selected Sangiovese clones. Appropriately developing in its aroma profile, this doles out tobacco, bay leaf, leather, dried thyme and a suggestion of chestnut. The palate is bright with sour cherry, tart redcurrant, and a kick of tangy acidity. The tannins are compact and dense – still quite chewy, this could do with another year or so in the cellar.
