A delicious, elegant yet complex Austrian red.
Zweigelt Reserve is made from 100% Blauer Zweigelt grapes cultivated in Sepp Moser's Hedwighof and Hollabern vineyards, which are situated among the gravelly soils of the warm southern Neusiedlersee village of Apetlon. The vineyards, which are around 117 metres above sea level (comparitively low), benefit from plenty of sunshine and the deep, dark and humous soils (well streaked with gravel) are in part responsible for the volume and smoothness of the kind of wines cultivated here. The grapes were hand harvested throughout the month of September and the average yield is 6500 kg/ha. The grapes were de-stemmed and crushed followed by two days of cold maceration. The must was fermented on the skins in stainless steel (two weeks of skin contact) giving the wine good colour and extraction. Malolactic fermentation and ageing in old 300 litre oak barrels for 20 months adds complexity and texture. Drink over the next 8 years.
Sepp Moser Zweigelt Reserve has ripe cherry, herbal and subtle tobacco aromas. The palate has juicy plum and berry fruit, fresh and bright acidity, supple balancing tannins and a bitter cherry twist on the finish.
Great matching with pork dishes, goulash or ratatouille.
