Vendange Tardive', means 'late harvest' and describes the viticulture for this style of wine. The wine is only produced in specific years, when extended periods of dry weather allow the grapes to dry out, concentrating the delicious citrussy aromas.
Cave de Turckheim Gewurztraminer Vendange Tardive wine has a nose of Seville orange marmalade, rose and a hint of lemon. Wonderfully rich and weighty on the palate; the rose and orange blossom come through along with bitter-sweet candied peel flavours. A lovely, lemony acidity gives excellent balance on the long, fresh finish.
A genuine Bakewell Tart would be an interesting option ... or any fruit-based pies or crumbles. It could also work with rich and spicy foods (not too much chilli!). A firm favourite is chocolate brownie with salted butter!
