Pronounced SORG-fleet, which roughly translates as "no worries" the Zorgvliet Silvermyn Argentum has been a hidden gem lurking in our shop for months before we cracked open a bottle one evening. Now it's one of our best sellers.
There were about 100 or so of these wines that we "gambled" on when we opened Kwoff. We just ran out of time to taste and source enough wines to whittle it down to the 500 wines we needed for opening weekend, so we took some advice from our suppliers. Since then, we've been working our way through that list to taste them all (it's a tough job!) but my, oh, my, what a find the Argentum is. At less than £7 a bottle this wine is a bargain. It's a blend that uses more grape varieties than any other wine we have in the shop, which if we're honest, scared us a bit as concept wines like that rarely work, but blimey charlie, this one does. It's a beautiful balance of spice and fruit that is hard to pull off. This medium bodied belter oozes a Bordeaux level class. Silver Myn Argentum opens with a lovely tickle of liquorice and tobacco, but then gives way to an underlying depth of dark brambly fruit, rich and plummy with hints of warm cloves. Then you get a satisfying finish with grippy but well-integrated tannins. Quite extraordinary.
We were so impressed with this wine that we posted our experience on our Facebook page and the next morning we sold all our stock! We hadn't sold a single bottle of it in the 5 months up that point. Now we're taking orders by the case from people. Amazing what a little PR can do! If you're reading this and we have some more stock in, then stick a few bottles in your cart. You'll be delighted with the Silver Myn Argentum. It's a rare find that you can impress your friends with. Try with barbecued red meats, herby grilled chicken or even thick spicy south east Asian dishes.
Please note: All case wine orders can take between 7-10 days for delivery.
